… It Takes A Village!

While your child is picking out clothes or getting dressed, talk about putting on the armor of God.

Ask: Why do we wear clothes and shoes? (To protect our bodies, to keep our feet from getting blisters or cut when walking, to keep us warm in the winter, etc.)

Why does a soldier wear a special uniform? (To protect him from enemy gunfire, to help him fight the enemy, etc.)

Ephesians 6:11-18 tells us to put on special “clothing” (armor) to protect us against the bad things that come against us. This special clothing is not something you can see and hold, but is something we should have when we are getting ready to start the day. (If you are ambitious write out the following “pieces” and have each family member draw one and then find something to remind you of that piece; the helmet of salvation could be an old football or bicycle helmet with a sign on it that says, “salvation.”)

Belt of truth—Know the truth and speak it.

Breastplate of righteousness—God gives you HIS righteousness and help to do right.

Shoes with the gospel of peace—Know the good news about Jesus and share it with others.

Shield of faith—Believe God’s Word instead of the devil’s lies.

Helmet of salvation—Know that God has saved you from sin and determine to live like Jesus.

Sword, which is the Word of God—Read it, study it, and memorize it.

Close by asking God for His help to fight against sin (doing wrong things).
